Bole Hill Road ran behind the Museum. Although not exactly contemporary, these photographs of local buildings provide an indication the area's atmosphere.
Walkley HallA notable local building was Walkley Hall. The Sheffield Local Studies Library indicates that the Hall was 'probably built by William Rawson in 1600', and that it 'was demolished in 1926 to make way for the present housing estate'.
The new housing estate stands on Heavygate Road, a street that leads steeply uphill from Bole Hill Road. The Sheffield Local Studies Library indicates that 'Heavygate Road was once a narrow lane and was known locally as Dark Lane'.
Bole Hill Primary SchoolBole Hill Road was a rural lane in the 1880s.
